Future Park JHB from 24th of February 2018

Future Park Johannesburg

I am beyond excited to take my boys to Future Park Jhb, it opens on the 24th of February and is here until the 8th of April at Silverstar Casinos

I marked these dates on my calendar  last year when I came across instagram pic after awesome instagram pic from the blog mommies in Cape Town that I follow.

It looks beyond awesome.

The exhibition’s fun, interactive activities will captivate the imagination and introduce young ones to the marvels of technology, using scanners and sensors to make each child’s colourful drawings come to life in this unique digital universe.

WHOSE BRAINCHILD IS FUTURE PARK?

teamLab was formed in 2001 by a group of Tokyo University postgraduates. This “ultra-technologists” group consists of a wide range of specialists who blur the boundaries between art, science, technology and creativity. teamLab’s activities include the opening sequence of the Taiga drama Hana Moyu, the Milan Expo 2015 Japan Pavilion, and exhibitions throughout the world including New York’s Pace Gallery, London’s Saatchi Gallery, Paris’ Maison & Objet, Silicon Valley’s PACE Art + Technology, Istanbul’s Borusan Contemporary, Singapore’s ArtScience Museum and Seoul’s teamLab World. About 470 000 people visited the Odaiba teamLab exhibition in Tokyo.

Some Activities are listed below:

  • Sketch Aquarium

Children are invited to colour in a drawing of a sea creature of their choice. Once completed, the piece of paper is scanned and the image projected onto a giant virtual aquarium. Kids will be able to see their creation come to life and swim with the other sea creatures!

When I saw this I knew that this was right up my youngest’s alley – the little artist.

  • A Table Where Little People LiveFutire Park - Table for Little People

In this installation, little people run around an interactive tabletop screen around which children sit or stand. They’re encouraged to interact with the little people by placing objects on the table. As each object is introduced, the movements of the little people change – they interact with the objects by jumping, climbing and sliding onto them.

  • Connecting! Block Town

Here cars and trains run along digitally projected roads and railroad tracks that are connected by physical wooden blocks. As children place different blocks on the table, more cars and trains appear to form a townscape!

  • Light-ball Orchestra

Light-ball Orchestra

Rolling a light ball changes its colour and sound. Combined, the light balls form an orchestra. The overhead ball communicates with the other balls – touch it and the surrounding balls are affected, changing the colour of the entire space!

If you follow me on social media you will have met my little boy with special needs. Now when I saw the photos of Future Parks in Cape town I was filled with excitement ultimately for this little man of mine who absolutely loves anything to do with light and music. In Fact all the toys or items we utilize in his therapies are with light or music. So I know for sure we will be spending a lot of our time in the Light Ball Orchestra Area.

Easter Treats 2017

Easter has definitely become my favourite holiday , we really do reflect on the meaning and celebration of Easter more so than Christmas in my opinion.Theres no rush to buy gifts ,there’s no pressure to tick off lists – there is just this sense of calm and togetherness…..well at least thats the case in my family.

We go to church the morning of Good Friday return home and have a late family lunch. We do glow in the dark Easter Egg Hunts (this has now turned into a tradition with loads of giggles and adults joining in on the fun – last year my brother-in-law thought it a hoot to bury them to make it more difficult for the kids. One egg is still missing lol). Sunday morning we go to mass, we meet have a big Easter Lunch and the kids get treats.

Now let me tell you about these treats! Before I had kids I had already , shall I call it petitioned for the move to small gifts instead of chocolates to be made (wink-wink,  nudge-nudge) its finally happened and we usually get the kids a very small chocolate along with a book or dvd or even an item of clothing.

I’ve put together a few of the items I’ve bought , have a look below:

Click on highlightered area for link to items

Top Row: Possibly the best buy ever…our Woolies Glow in the Dark Eggs ,  for older kids this DVD is just beautiful , we usually watch this during the Easter Break , my favourite find this year is pereft for mom’s , your bff or work collegue or even a teen – I came across these at Foschini

2nd Row: The perfect top of any little girl to wear over Easter , I love this little bunny ring holder from Umbra ,  this is another fun one from Woolworths; their Egg Decorating Kit is so a wonderful afternoon of fun (be sure to buy real white eggs at PNP).

3rd Row: The arts and crafts kits from Clicks are awesome , we love #veggietales and this DVD gets watched even when its not Easter . Egg and Spoon will keep the kids busy and its loads of fun.

Last Row: My fab find this morning comes from Chefs and Icers in Sandton, how sweet is this little Bunny Egg dish? Lastly by far the sweetest and cutest Easter item on my list is the Baby-X Easter outfit – one of the teachers just had a baby and we got baby an Easter Outfit .

Cut a slit half way on the top left side and a slit half way on the bottom right side so when you bring both arms together you will slot on into the other

You could always just tape the two arms together if you like.

Upcycling – Easter Decor

  mgfacross-cover

I like to do a touch of “festive decorating”  over almost any holiday be it a heart wreath at our entrance , Father Christmas Cookie Jar on the kitchen shelf and a little bunny-something over Easter.

Many years ago I went all pastels for Easter and covered a Wooden cross from PNA with scrap-booking paper.

I never used it again after that because I was done with the colours.I thought I’d be smart this year and upcycle it.

mgfacross.03

All I needed was the glue, a scissors and a Stanley knife – I removed all the scrap-booking paper – not easy as I used really good glue. This took me ages and then I had a great idea to use a damp cloth and gently wipe. This did the trick and in not time it looked almost good as new – no left over paper that is.

I had some leftover Gold Glittered sheets from a party we had so I used that and some school glue (Pritt) – this way next year it wont be so hard to remove when I want to used it again to match the Easter colour scheme.

I love how this simple little project turned out.

This year my theme or should I say colour scheme will be Indigo and Gold – so everything is either a deep blue or gold colour.
